The provincial government of Camarines Sur (Cam Sur) is implementing a free, 100-hour English Proficiency Program (EPP). This aims to improve oral communication skills of job seekers in the call center sector, make them more competent, and increase their chances of getting hired. According to Governor Luis Raymond Villafuerte, the said program, now on its second year, covers not only English literacy but also technical skills necessary in call centers. Villafuerte added that there are more job opportunities for people in Cam Sur as the Embarcadero Business and IT Park recently opened in Legazpi City. This will soon employ 24,000 call center agents from the province. Since its inception, 5,876 individuals have already benefited from EPP, and most of them have jobs in BPO companies in the province including Sutherland Global Services, an international company that currently employs almost 1,000 agents.
